Training a Nurse Assistant
The Nurse Assistant is the vital link between the patient, their family members the nurse and other medical staff. They not only need to take care of the patients which includes bathe, feed and dress the patient but also give the correct report of the patient to the nurse and medical staff.
There are many certificate programs which are conducted for the Nurses assistant and are run by medical facilities or colleges. The certificate program is for a short time only and it can be completed as fast as four weeks. But there are other programs which can run up to 8 weeks to 12 weeks. This also depends if the course is taken part time or full time. The duration of the course also depends on the curriculum, and the requirement of the program. The training program teaches the nursing assistant how to take care of the patient in physical and psychological needs of every patient they handle.
The Certified Nurses Assistant program makes you understand the psychological need of patient and they are taught the textbook and given the hands on training on site. The text book is generally used for the medical terminology and information on how to which will give the nurses assistant an insight into what is to be done. The communication is the main aspect of the nurses assistant as they need to communicate with the patient about their condition, the family members of the patient and the nurses and the medical staff about the patient.
The practical training will teach you what you are learning in the classroom and how to apply the same in the practical way. The nurses assistant program have mannequins which the nurses assistant works on by taking their vital signs, giving them bath and dressing them. The clinicals are conducted in conjunction with the local medical facility and helps the nurses assistant to practically handle a patient with a nurse supervising and guiding you.
The Clinicals are very important in the role of nurses assistant as it gives them the insight of the role of Nurses assistant. Since the nurses assistants clinicals are conducted in small groups all the assistant gets a chance to take care of the patient and if they do anything wrong the nurses are in attendance to guide them.
If the Certificate course is attached to certain medical facility then the nurses assistant gets the practical training in that medical facility. If you show great promise in your work you may get the job offer in that facility itself. But the facility is not only looking for promising staff but also your need to be punctual, willing to learn, have a attention to detail and of course a positive approach to the job.
The on training job offer is a good one for you as you already have learned how the system works and the nurses assistant is aware of the policies and procedures of the facility as all the facility have different policies and procedures. Even though the basic policies and procedure will be same there are likely to follow different which will take a little time for you to settle.
