patient's rightsNursing assistant are a link between the patient and the medical staff at any facility. The nursing assistants are the closer to the patients as they take care of them day in and day out. Their basic care is taken over by the Nursing assistant once they are in the hospital or any nursing homes. Since nursing assistants stay closer to the patient they need to know and respect the rights of patients thoroughly.

Patients in the care of nursing assistant have a right to information at the time of the admission and throughout their stay in a hospital or any facility. If the Nursing assistant is not capable enough to give out the answers, then they should inform the patient that they are not authorized to answer such questions and the doctor or nurse concerned will be able to answer them. The nursing assistant can make a record in the documents and inform the doctor or nurse immediately.

The patients have the right to refuse treatment offered to them. This creates a difficult situation for the Nursing assistants as they are there to help the patient as much as possible. But in case they do not require the help you cannot force them. This should be reported back to the doctor or the nurses and should be recorded in the documents of the patient.

The patient should be given a chance to file a formal complaint if they are not happy with the care they get. Guide them how to register a formal complaint.
The patient should not be abused in any way physically or mentally while they stay in the hospital or any medical facility. This can also include chemical or physical restraints. Any such incident should be reported by the nursing staff to their superiors.The confidentiality and dignity is the right of the entire patient and the nursing staff needs to see that they get it. The patient while in the hospital or facility should be respected and their private information should not be discussed or repeated to any one except to the doctors or their immediate care giver.

The patient should be given the right to their religion and they should be allowed visitors from the church or any other religious beliefs provided they do not hinder the medical advice. The Nursing assistant must learn to know the needs of the patient around these visits.

Nursing assistant has a very challenging career as they have to provide good care of all the patients and it can be a satisfying experience. They need to keep in mind that all the patients are different and work accordingly. Once you get used to the patient you will know how best to take care of them.

Once the nursing assistant knows the rights of the patients they will not have difficult to work around a patient and the patients should know that the nursing assistant is giving the best care and what ever they do is for the good of the patient. These things can help avoid any issues between the patient and the nursing assistant and the medical staff.
